The Inter Diocesan School Debate took place at Camille
Limbourg Auditorium on 17th September, 2016. The debate was hosted
by St. Anthony’s High School. The participating schools including the host were
St. Mary’s School, Loyola High School, St. Aloysius Orphanage and Day School,
Megh Mala Roy Education Center, St. Joseph’s School, Kharagpur and Christopher
Day School, Kharagpur. The Headmaster,
Fr. Devraj Fernandes, spared no effort in making the event a success.
The judges for the contest were Mrs. Nivedita Bhattacharjee,
Ms. Sufia Khatoon and Dr. Amit Shankar Saha. The chief Guest on the occasion
was Mr. Aniket Roy Deb, principal of St. Thomas’ Day School. The topic for the
debate was- In a democracy the citizens have the right to choose their own
lifestyle.
Two students of each school were to speak for and against
the topic respectively. They debated the topic hotly with original ideas and
observations. All the students spoke eloquently enough to impress the judges,
who later declared that it was tough for them to decide the winner. Md. Asif,
of St. Anthony’s High School was adjudged Best Speaker and Argha Palodhi, of
St. Joseph’s School, Kharagpur was Runner Up. St. Joseph’s School was also
adjudged Champion School.
