TEENAGERS EXPRESS THEMSELVES IN ORATIO 2014
St. Anthony’s High School hosted the third edition of its signature event Oratio, the Inter-School Elocution Competition 2014, at Father Camille Limbourg Auditorium. Like preceding years this year too the event found an overwhelming participation response from the city schools.Students from fifteen schools participated in this year’s event showcasing their oratorical skills. The schools, apart from the host school, were St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, St. James School, Loreto Day School (Eliot Road), Grace Ling Liang School, St. Mary’s School, St. Joseph’s College, Union Chapel School, St. Paul’s Mission School, St. Aloysius Day School, La Martiniere for Girls, Birla High School, Apeejay School, The Park English School and Calcutta Boys’ School.

Eminent Bengali poet and Sahitya Akademi Award winner (2013) Dr. Subodh Sarkar inaugurated the event. In his speech Dr. Sarkar expressed his admiration for the discipline shown by the students of the school. It was followed by a prayer dance performed by the students of the host school. The topic of the elocution competition was LIVING AS A TEENAGER IN THE 21ST CENTURY, which gave tremendous scope for the students to express their views. The event was sponsored by Mr. Murli Punjabi (ex-student) with OUP being the co-sponsor.
Once the competition started students from various schools spoke eloquently on the topic. The judges, Dr. Siddhartha Biswas (Dean of Post Graduate Studies, St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College), Dr. Rangana Banerji (Assistant Professor of English, Calcutta University) and Dr. Subhadeep Paul (Assistant Professor of English, Maulana Azad College), had a tough time deciding the winner.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2014
The Investiture Ceremony for the captains, vice captains, secretaries, volunteers and monitors
for the academic year 2014 was held at the school grounds on 16th January in a
solemn manner. Renewing the charter of the school's hoary tradition the
student office bearers were invested with their badges by His Grace Archbishop
Thomas D'Souza. The day's celebration began with the Holy Mass con-celebrated by the Archbishop, Fr. Anthony Paul, the school Headmaster Fr. DEVRAJ FERNANDES and the Assistant Headmaster Fr. Siluvai Pitchai. Students of secondary school
were present on the occasion. The school was blessed by the Archbishop after
the conclusion of the mass. His Grace Archbishop Thomas D'Souza addressed the
students and staff and stressed the need for unselfish and true leaders.
He also congratulated the teachers for their role in shaping the best leaders
of the future. The headmaster reiterated the importance of dedicated
service.

TEACHERS' ASSEMBLY
The secondary teachers conducted the first assembly of the academic year
2014 and its theme was aptly New Year, New Beginning. The teachers spoke
eloquently on the hope a new beginning offers and the opportunity it gives to
make a fresh and noble start. They inspired the students to begin their new
session in a positive and meaningful manner. The favourite prayer of St.
Francis of Assissi was recited on the occasion and the hymn Make Me a Channel
of Your Peace was sung.

TEACHERS' ORIENTATION
The calendar year
began with a special orientation for the teachers of St. Anthony's High School
and St. Joseph’s Nursery and Kindergarten organised by Orient Blackswan the
famous publishers of quality books for children. Although the program was
focused on Teaching English as a First Language it dealt with issues related to
classroom teaching in general as well. Mrs. S. Chatterjee, the resource person,
gave the teachers a sort of refreshers course on the essentials of classroom
teaching. It was an enlightening experience for the teacher s to participate in
the programme. The day-long session concluded with an interactive class
simulation.

SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE BY THE TEACHERS IN BADMINTON
A team of teachers of St. Anthony's High School participated in the Inter-School Teachers Badminton Tournament for the McGee Cup organized by Calcutta Boys' School on 26th and 27th October, 2013. A total of 24 teams participated from 16 schools. The tournament comprised of singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories. The team of Fr. Devraj Fernandes, Philip D'Costa, Shane Fernandez and Cynthia Garg put up a spectacular performance and came runners-up.
