The Inter House Athletic Sports Meet of St. Anthony’s High
School was held on 21st February 2015 with great fanfare at the
Calcutta University Ground. The event was held after a gap of three years and
the enthusiasm shown by students in participating in the various competitive
events and the teachers in organizing them was evidence of this fact. The
Calcutta University grounds wore a festive look with shamianas for parents and
guardians and a makeshift stage for guests erected close to the pavilion.
Elaborate arrangements were made to ensure smooth functioning of the event.
The Chief Guest, Dr.
Faud Halim, accompanied by Guest of Honour, Dr. Amritlal Chakraborti arrived at
the stroke of 9 a.m. to ensure that the program could begin on time. Their
arrival was followed by the ceremonial March Past by the four houses of the
school, Dragon, Phoenix, Unicorn and Griffin. The School flag was then hoisted
by the Headmaster, Fr. Devraj Fernandes and the Chief Guest. That was followed
by the School Anthem and the torch run by the Captains of the houses and the
School Captains culminating in the handing over of the torch by the Games
Secretary to the Headmaster. The flame being lit the oath was taken by the participants
and the games began. The races were a sight to behold as the runners gave it
all they were worth. Prize distribution of events
held earlier was also held for events like Discus Throw, Javelin and High Jump. The school also hosted three drills, one each from the junior, middle and senior school. The relay races and tug of war were the most thrilling as they brought all the spectators to their feet. The parents and guardians as well as ex- students had an item each to participate in. The Chief Guest was all praise for the manner in which the games were conducted. He also praised the athletic skills of the students. The Champion House was awarded to Green House and the March Past prize was given to Yellow House. The sportsman of the year was Shah Waqarul Haque of Class 10 A. The Headmaster mentioned the painstaking way the teachers arranged the games and conducted the event and thanked all who contributed to making the event a success.
